I separate the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity.
I attach to the lower 6 ribs.

I am the diaphragm.

Summary
Origin:
Costal attachment: lower six ribs
Lumbar attachment: upper two or three lumbar vertebrae
Sternal attachment: xiphoid process
Insertion: Central tendon of the diaphragm
Nerve: phrenic C3, 4, 5
Action: draws down the central tendon of the diaphragm & increases the volume of the thoracic cavity during inhalation.
Day-to-day life
Function: breathing mechanics, inhalation & exhalation. It helps expel vomit, faeces & urine by increasing intra-abdominal pressure.
